Guys, please note, that there exists a Fantasy Book Club and Classic Book Club already. That being said, keep this thread to the other genres not covered by the other two clubs.

Perhaps we can have a club to discuss non-fantasy contemporary books? Or perhaps fanfictions? Or even non-fictions...

That would be fine, as long as it's not something that would be discussed in the two clubs I mentioned.

Yes. It was annoying and boring and full of mistakes even though he claimed that everything pertaining to the artworks and architectures are true facts.
Sorry Mr Brown, you ain't as smart as you think you are. 5 minute Google searches debunked dozens of your so-called facts.

Oh yes, his annoying habit of confusing imagination and reality had gone to such length, that the definition of "A work that is claimed to be accurate/factual, but is actually isn't" had been termed Dan Browned.

Eh, I actually like Dan Brown's books except for Digital Fortress. If I had to give up a book just because it's inaccurate in something, I'd end up reading nothing.
They're generally good as an action-y mystery. Digital Fortress though just sucked though I put that up as his first novel hence why it wasn't that good.

It's not the fact that it's wrong per se that makes me chuck the book. It's the fact that Brown is INSISTING THAT THOSE WRONG FACTS ARE TRUE. If it's wrong, then it's not true!
Also, his books are long-winded, too much tell-not-show, and boring.

What Dan Brown intends/insists is no skin off my back. I read it as a fictional action-y mystery and find it really amusing when people write and publish books to debunk Da Vinci Code. Even better when people actually buy them lol.
And I found Dan Brown's books entertaining enough. Some of his earlier stuff gets a bit long winded and unnecessary angst, but his Da Vinci series is alrite. They're not paragons of the book world, but they did what I wanted them to: entertain.

Well, I do care about getting real-world facts right so Brown insisting that his faulty facts are TOTALLY TRUFAX YO is an issue with me. Everyone to their own, though.

Though if the book contains too much true fact, it won't be much different from a non-fiction (not that I mind reading non-fictions). I don't have any problems with reality being bent in exchange for a cool storyline, though if the author puts in offensive/stupid nonsense and insist its the truth, it does get irritating (not to mention pointless).

@Rogue: Precisely. I don't mind a little bit fact-bending, but Dan Brown billed his books to be TRUFAX - or at least the facts pertaining real-life places/artifacts/artworks/architecture are true - and so it's very annoying when people catch his mistakes.
