You should be able to rid your system of the virus without re-installing Windows... and what guarantee do you have that re-installing will fix it?

Perhaps you should download Windows Defender (it is free) and give it a try before resorting to the drastic measure... assuming it's not too late

I personally use AVG Free. Its a great program. You can get it off Download.com.

With modern viruses, reformatting (reinstalling windows) doesn't work any more... at least, not very often.

Though the first thing you should prally do for that virus is get rid of whatever cracked program had it in the first place.

then get anti-virus software like AVG Free (it's really good actually. =P)
also, if you're willing to risk it, HijackThis. there's a bunch of sites out there where people will help you decipher the HiJackThis log and figure out what to get rid of.

three or four of them actually help, i have the AVG, the norton i think, mcAfree? and there's another one that i don't really use.

Well , you could always try to (i dont know the nname on english but it kinda restores the harddrive) and get Nod32 or AVG.

I think that's called System Restore? Its one of the System Tools, and you can access it from the taskbar under Programs I think. Though your com may not have it, my old com didn't...

But it saved my com's life once! It got mauled pretty bad by some virus thingy about a year ago.

okay.. actually, out of the four, there's only one that usually detects the virus. i think that's the best one. will figure out though which one. i forgot.

If you have characteristics of the virus,google it and sometimes some good tech forums come up with solutions on how to overcome the virus.
