Is there a shovel in this game or are the little brown patches I keep finding just there to make me crazy. Rhen will not dig without a shovel and I can't find one anywhere. Granted, I am just now tackling Land's end, but I keep finding those dirt patches and can't do anything. If I need to ignore them please just tell me.
I tried the walkthrough and the only time it mentions digging, it says to dig you your hands - doesn't work. Thanks, GJ

Yes. You need a shovel, but you have not reached where you need to get it yet. Complete Lands End quest of Defeating the Daeva and rescuing the Druid to get what you need to access the area you couldn't enter before in the Wildwoods.
When you do, go to New Witchwood in Halloween Hills and talk to the people there to get the quest to get the shovel.
