Game is by Reives, maker of Quintessence The Blighted Venom.

Forum for the game can be found here:

This is a short game (about 15-20 min)with a story totally up to you to decipher! Nearly made my head go BOOM!

Like Reives says on the site, you'll either like it or not like it but any game that is able to mess with your head like that is worth a try in my book!
(I liked it by the way, but I am still trying to piece a story together for my own sanity, )

I just tested it and the page does come up. Although sometimes I have problems pulling up rmxp.org so I clear my internet history, cookies and such and it helps.

Here is the direct download link if you still can't get it to come up:

mehh, I'm so confused I didn't get the story at all(if there's supposed to be one).
And as the furniture started to disappear I started to think about complots and such nonsense..

Well, about the game, I enjoyed playing it - it was something different and for a change, it was short.

Spoiler (Highlight to read):When the fire started I was so shoked, I only thought 'OMG, I'm going to die!' xD

btw what do the numbers on the picture in the dinning room stand for?

That's just it, ayne there is no concrete story! I don't think you are suppose to get it, that's what makes it so weird. You pretty much have to draw your own conclusions about what it all means.(I'm still trying!)For me the story themes I can see might be

Spoiler:

Life/death or Time Past Present and future maybe even reality/dream

Also to answer your question, I'm not sure about the numbers I guess it just adds to the randomness of the game.

Oh hey, thanks for posting it here Xchain!

The numbers in this release actually does have a point to them - but nothing that's needed to decipher for advancing the actual game. It's just pointing out an aspect of the "metaphor" per se that you would probably have guessed even without it.

Oh, and you'd need a slight bit of historical knowledge to get it; but nothing much. But either way, it's not something that important.

I enjoyed your other game so much (can't wait for the next chapter!) that I searched to see if you had any other games. I found this one and just had to share! I do need to play it again and come up with some kind of meaning to the "story" or it will bother me to no end!

As always, thanks for the free entertainment and stimulating my brain cells to function that much harder,

I don't get the title though. Just finished playing the game, thought the "birdy" would be some psycho serial killer but it turned out to be really a....

Anyways, it was creepy to play and didn't make any sense at all. =/ *deletes*

mmh.. even if there isn't a concrete story I'm trying to figure one out, too

@reives:
I was wondering about the poem:
Did you write it yourself or does it really exist?

Hm, chances are that it's not something that already exists, as I don't recall using things from elsewhere.

I'll post two of the more well-thought-of interpretations, but don't let them limit ya! No interpretation is wrong here - the whole point of the game is more or less in the hands of the players to find a meaning out of it.

But all in all, it is anything but literal. If you take it at face value, there's nothing. The mirror lied because when one looks at a mirror, one sees oneself - but it lied, hence one didn't see oneself, and hence one doesn't literally exist.

Here are two of them:

Quote:
[From "Volrath"]
======================================================================
I saw it as a commentary on nuclear warfare, taking place sometime in the future during a nuclear holocaust. I noted that the dates on the calendar extended beyond 2008, and the vanishing continents could represent the world slowly being destroyed by nukes. "Birdie" is reminiscent of the cutesy names given to the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki (i.e. "Little Boy"). The caller's insistence that Leah may be able to "kill" Birdie reveals humanity's complicity in nuclear destruction...if we could scrounge up the courage, we could come together and put an end to all of it. I could be totally off..or letting my own opinions on foreign policy inform this. I won't hide that I think nuclear attacks are a cowardly form of warfare, an inflated form of hit-and-run, and something that treats its victims as...faceless, ignoring their individual humanity.

Quote:
[From "Kemuri"]
======================================================================
It's not very clear what happens, it leaves a lot up to the player to decide what everything means.

Like for me, personally, I want to be a game developer, that's my dream, and I know it'll probably never happen. My parents would never support it, and they just want me to have a regular job that pays well, and doesn't risk my future. For me, the birdie was like my dream, the house was the confines of the world. The person calling/emailing was my dad telling me to kill my "birdie" and stay in the "house". Watering the plant was all the effort I've poured into getting out of the "house". The fire was the daily problems of life that are always blown out of proportion in the moment, but all you really need to do is sleep them off and those huge problems suddenly disappear. In the end, I'm living my dream (flying with the birdie, above the house) but I'll never be able to make it all the way to the end of my life living that dream. By choosing the dream instead of the safer path in life, I've pulled the trigger on my future.

This is probably nothing like what you were trying to convey, and maybe I'm reading far too deeply into things, but my point is that every single person who plays this game will get something different out of it. There is no universal "answer" even if that's what you intended. The games' ambiguity forces the player to draw from their own experiences.

This will make an amazing game for some, and leave many others scratching their heads wondering what the heck just happened.
======================================================================

[I'll say that Volrath's had a lot of the pin-point themes in the original "planning". But again, don't let that limit the interpretations, as there was no one certain linear plot in this from myself. c: ]

The mirror thing, I get it now, but the girl flew with the birdy and "killed" it...why...? It doesn't make sense to 'kill' your 'dream'. =/ And why did she die instead...? (The end creep me out when it called ME as the birdy. =/ )

Anyways, I think someone said the story was giving the "time flies" msg so I'll just add a bit to the conclusion. The faceless girl probably means we all look like "the same", and when the girl flew with the "birdy", she tried to "kill" it but can't and also end up disappearing because maybe the "birdy" doesn't wait for anyone. Get it?

it was so mysterious, is there some kind of time limit? cuz it kept going 00:04 counting down, stopped and continued every few minutes. anyways, i ALWAYS need help with games no matter how short or easy. the basement place with the heater is next 2 another room, it's STILL blocked and the right drawer in the dining room has still the second and fifth i think locked. how do i get the key? i am soo confused. also is the cactus plant in the dining room supposed to be of any significance?

hey, chloeclone.

there's no time limit. the counting you see was the telephone. go answer it

as for the basement... uh.. you have to be able to open all the 3 switches. the 3 switch will be on once you answer the phone on the specific time written there.

as for the key.. uh.. it's inside the drawers.. i just don't know which one. just search every drawer in the house.

and the cactus. plant it every time it's dry

hope that was of some help

I admit that the music box is VERY creepy (especially when you're only in your room playing at night) >_<, but, it has a good melody.

Wow,that is a cool game but I have two questions:
When does that cactus dry? I plant it for three times and it is STILL absorbing the water! And why does that man says me at he phone what is the hour?

I think he will call you and tell you to "get some water and hide under the table" or something like that, (fill your bucket) then go down where the heater is, I think the house will be on fire, then go to the heater and there will be an explosion and I think you need to go to your bed and "sleep it off". Then you wake up and get the pesticides and the "crystal" (the "dried absorbed water" )from the cactus will get "broken", making the thorns go away but you need to use the pesticides (they're in the drawer) for the insects, then you will climb the cactus. (Sorry if there's too much spoilers.)
