I was reading the newspaper a little while ago and apparently, this Toronto girl posted a Youtube video about the "proper" way to open a bag of milk.
And people (mostly Americans?) thought this was both fascinating and weird. When I was a kid, my parents always bought our milk in plastic bags, and it wasn't until recently that they switched over to cartons. So, you know, milk bags are a norm for me. Granted, I currently buy my milk in 1L cartons because those bags are a heckuva lot of milk and I can't finish them on my own before it expires >.> Still, I want to know! How do you buy your milk? Carton? Bag? Jug? Do you think it's weird for milk to come in a bag? EDIT: Blargha blargha, this was supposed to be a poll....but it obviously failed >_<

Eheh. I grown up with milk in a bag too. But now, since the milk industry we were buying our milk from, we switched over to Natrel milk, which only gives milk in cartons. And I'm such a milk-drinker, I usually have two glass of 700 ml of milk per day. Yeah, I know, that's a lot. But Milk is *my* drug.
That's why I married Moo. *cough* *still-in-the-subject-spaming* Natrel 2% is the best milk ever. And 0% milk tastes dust.

We used to go to Canada to visit my husband's parents so to the children I guess it was "that weird thing we did when visiting grandma and grandpa". So now, it is mostly cartons or gallon jugs; one store we can buy in GLASS but it has to be returned and the store is 30 miles away and I always forget to take the empties.
I'd love to have milk deliveries like my mom had when we were growing up. That was mostly in glass bottles.

milk comes in a bag? I thought it came from a cow ._.!
jokes aside: yeah, that seems weird since here, milk is generally in some type of carton or plastic jug. Sounds hard to pour it into a bowl of cereal. Oo? Though there's plenty of tourists who gawk and take pictures at the hanging meat in chinatown while that's a normal sight for us so its all relative yeah? XD

Well... this is a new concept to me, milk in a bag???
Anyways with that said I don't like milk anyways so I don't drink it... just with cereal. But I get it in a carton.

SO IT'S TRUE!
I find it totally weird that something I grew up with is actually not so well-known in places not too far from here. FREAKY. In contrast, I don't really see milk come in jugs. It's either bags or cartons. But, yes, milk bags exist, and yes, they can be hard to pour xD It takes serious skills to cut the bag properly and then pour it without spilling!

We get milk in bottles and/or plastic jugs here. I've seen the milk bags before, but my dad claims they're unhealthy. I think the reason was something along the lines of 'the fat found in the milk dissolves something from the nylon bag, leading to serious ailments after a long while'.
I can't be so sure about what he said, but he is a doctor and reads all the health magazines / web articles. *shrugs*

We always have milk cartons here. But when I visit India in summer vacation every year my Grandma buys the milk in bags. She takes it out in a steel pot heats it and then uses it. Meh she never let me do that though. XD

Wow, I've never heard of this, either.
Apparently, many Canadians have learned that Americans don't know about this, judging by the number of Youtube videos I've found. So, here's one describing milk in bags: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTPgd4HUk4w

Um it is pretty weird. o.o
Or not. Coz when I was in Philippines, we buy coke in those green glass bottles and there's an extra fee for the bottle unless you return an old one. For the sake of convenience, rather than bringing the whole bottle home, we could ask the salesperson to pour the coke in mini-plastics.

I usually get just Milk jugs, like the one KTC linked to, or I'll be a half carton.

I usually get milk in a cartoon. Growing up in the States, I never saw milk in a bag until I spent some time in Ontario. I live in Saskatchewan now but I haven't seen milk in a bag here. It's all in cartoons or plastic jugs.

lol KTC
Well I've had milk from lots of different types of containers - When I was a kid in Portugal it was in bags, - in the UK as a kid it was in glass bottle delivered by the milk man who then picked up the empty bottles and recycled them - then it moved to plastic coated cardboard cartons - now it's mainly plastic bottles or jugs I guess if you go back far enough people used to go along to the farmer with a milk pail to collect their own milk ![]()

Ummm... me grew up in Malaysia, so most of our milk comes in tins of milk powder. Fresh milk is a luxury for us, and comes usually in milk bottles like these (obviously ours aren't glass, and we don't get milkmen neither). But we do get long-life milk in cartons too. Didn't know nothing about milk bags until I went to study in London

Canadian milk, please.
(Ref : This song . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWQf13B8epw&feature=video_response ) But yeah. Reading this remembers me the ol'times, when my mother was shouting " JOÉ! VA CHERCHER LA POCHE DE LAIT POUR MON CAFÉ ! " , which means : " JOÉ ! BRING ME THE MILK POUCH FOR MY COFFEE!" Yeah. Milk pouch rocks. Want me to take pictures and videos of how to handle a milk bag proprerly ? ... Aeternus? ... I guess Ontario doesn't have the Québecer knowledge about the secret art of milk-pouring. XD

Personally I don't find milk in bags weird. Back in Indonesia we have lots of milk in bags. Though they're the street vendor kind of packing where you simply put milk in clear plastic bag and tie it with string or rubber band, not the kind of sealed-up plastic bag like you have when you buy, say, Cheetos or chips. Though I have to say I'm surprised to learn that there are properly packed milk in bags like that...
Speaking of weird milk packs, does any other country have milk in a packaging that looks like a weird combination of a carton and a bag? It looks just like the Canadian milk bags but it's made of cardboard/paper like the milk cartons. It's real small. One bag probably equals to one glass of milk and sometimes they have this little poke-hole for straws. It was quite popular in Indonesia a while back.
