Gay marriage has been a big debate throughout the world (well, some of it anyway.) ...and I was wondering what Armanthia has thought about it.
I agree with it 100% - Love is love, and no love is wrong.

Your views?

Edit&Ps: My mom and her partner just got married...and it made them very happy to be able to So...throughout different parts of the world, I really think it needs to be legalized to make others just as happy.

the issue of marriage is really the issue...what defines a marriage?...is it a licensed commitment between two people?...that is my view...however, not all parts of the world are prepared for it...i live just outside of a big city...in the city there is an active gay/lesbian community...out here things walk the line between being conservative and open-minded...

what has to be addressed is the definition of marriage so that it addresses "persons" rather than a man/woman relationship...

things are changing...the debate no longer stands solely with adults...children are aware of these changes and are having to defend themselves when confronted by others who are not so understanding...

it is only a matter of time before things shift in favor of it completely...people cannot swim against the tide of change for long...

I think the mistake we make is instilling the "normalcy" of heterosexual relationships too early in life. I mean, sure, man/woman is the only way of procreating, but not love. While one in general begets the other, the two should be separated.

@aisling - a friend of mine and her husband have expressed to their young child (she is four and VERY precocious) that it is okay for boys to marry boys and girls to marry girls (the subject of marriage came up at the little girl's school)...

while that is so wonderful that they want to instill that sort of open-mindedness and total acceptance, there is a slight problem...children, especially young children, should not be placed in situations where they feel they have to defend those types of views...it is hard enough on them as it is dealing with the playground politics of life...

because it cause a major conflict at the school, i suggested that they emphasize that not all families are the same...and that in their family those beliefs are okay and that it should be something that, until she is a little older, should be discussed at home as much as she wants....

when i used those words with my friend's daughter she relaxed and said "oh, like it's okay for boys to marry boys in my mom and dad's house but not in everyone's houses?"...when i told her yes she sighed and said "that's so sad, (serendipity), why cant they all be like that?"...beacuse that is the way our world works, was my response...

what a wonderful life lesson for this little girl to begin to understand that we all have differences...unfortunately not all situations are handled thusly...

@ Addicted_Emma: that makes me so happy to hear about your mom! congrats to her and her partner!

As a "gay", i can say i definety agree with gay marrigage, plus, it helps the economy, which we could seriosuly use right now. But there are even homosexual people who dont even want it due to what serendipity is talking about it: marriage has partially turned into a legal contract.

I also agree with aisling, but children DO tend to see black and white only. i think its great if you can help your kids understand that theres different people our there, but you cant honestly expect them to fully understand or see things differently, due to developmental issues.

I honestly dont understand why its not allowed. there is no legal arguement that it shouldnt exsist, only predjudice and public opinion. thankfully public opinion is starting to change, but its a little sad that public opinion can effect logical law so much.

as for those who have religious agruements against gay marriage: allowing gay marriage isnt going to make new gay people, we're still here... and love should be the base of morals.

@nick - no there is no logical reason for not having it legal other than those who choose to use biblical reasoning which is faulty at best due to the "holes" with offering up women to conceive children with men when their own wives are unable to conceive (dont even get me started on that one lol)...

i think the purpose of religion as it pertains to homosexuality will never be fully resolved because religion is an interpretation of a written work (this goes for most religions in general) and those interpretations are done by humans, therefore subject to their own views and experiences...

(emma - congrats...i am sure you are all very happy right now!)

since gay=happy, let it be.

people hate gay/les because they want the world to be less "perfect"

"but wat is perfect?" is the question

*sigh* Ok... I am very torn on this subject.
1. I am not now and never will be anything but heterosexual...
2. Some of the best friends I have are "gay", lesbian, bi, or bicurious...
3. I see so many people who are truly happier in that lifestyle.
My parents are some of those who believe that it is against God to be gay... that is is morally wrong... but I have searched in the Bible and nowhere does it say that man cannot seek after man or woman after woman... however... it does say that God found man and woman together right. And it was ordered that we procreate.
Man/man and woman/woman marriages being banned WILL NOT bring about more procreation. The same people who want to get married will not decide that since they are not allowed to, they will magically decide they want to seek after the opposite sex. This is not how mankind works.
So... should there be laws against gay marriage? Not by any government... should churches have laws against gay marriage? Well, mine has many homosexual attendees... so I don't think so.
Should there be guidelines for homosexual couples? Differences in how they're treated in terms of taxes or anything like that? No.
Do I completely agree with it? NO. I do not see it as a healthy thing for people... but it is not an issue of morality or ethics... not of that particular person, anyway. But I do not agree that it is a good way to spend one's life.
This being said, please keep in mind what I said in No 2.
Thank you.

@marianfrae - your honesty is truly refreshing and welcome...i was hoping that someone would post a different view so that it can fully represent the dynamics of this site...i can feel how this issue is one that causes you some struggle because of family/friends/beliefs...i am glad you shared...

@ marian frae: this isnt to argue with you, but how do you see it as not helping people to be homosexual? are you assuming that the homosexuals in question are living a promiscious lifestyle, is that whats unhealthy? i think that there are many different people, and while something that may not be healthy or good for one person, can be completely the right match for another. for example: promiscuity, since i brought it up earlier. and no, im not linking promiscuity to gay people, that would totally be counter productive. promiscuity is definetly wrong for some people, a lot/most of people actually, people need the closeness and emotional involvement durring sex, HOWEVER, i think its completely right for some people. if you can make it work, and it works for you, then great. youre still upping you chances of stds and emotional issues, but hey, thats your deal. if its right for you, go for it.

Nick, I was speaking in general terms. For most of the people I meet, being homosexual is not a healthy thing for them... though I completely agree that some people do seem truly better off- happier in general being gay. This is why the subject is such a split-in-emotion causing thing for me. All I want for my loved ones is that they be happy... so I am thrilled for some to see them thriving in that lifestyle... but others only seem to be hurting themselves. I, also, just cannot understand the draw to your own gender... so I cannot fully find it a healthy choice.

@ Marian: i understand what youre saying, because i cant feel the draw to my opposite gender, therefore i understand.

part of what you might be sensing when you feel that its unhealthy for people is the crap that people put gay people through. :\

it depends on the situation and who its coming from: if its something you have to put up with or not. usually you just blow it off and feel like crap later when you have time to deal with it. :\

My friend took part in a confirmation some time ago (though I have no idea why since she isn't religious), and a priest explained to her that they don't think gay marriage should be legal because then people would say, "Hey, if gays can get married, why can't I marry my dog?"
That's just...no. Two men getting married would be two humans getting married. Two women getting married would be two humans getting married. A human and a dog getting married would be a human forcing an animal to get married. That's disgusting, and I don't see how he could compare gays getting married to that.
I support gay marriage, just as I support straight marriage. If two people are happy together, who am I to try and stop them?

Oh, and congratulations to your mom and her partner! ^_^
