AV3 Screenies for Guilds
Posted by shaz on 15-Mar-2009 (6830 reads)

We are now in the final "tidying up" stage of development, where the game is more or less complete (you can play it through from start to finish), but there are a lot of little things still to be added or tweaked.

You know how it is - you finish one big task, and turn around to find half a dozen tiny ones staring up at you.

Amanda will be taking care of most of those herself this week. Plans are to begin alpha testing next week, then beta a month later.

Hopefully we won't run out of screen shots for you between now and then. We still have a few more interviews to post, and I'm planning a very special update in a few weeks.

Without further ado...

Witchwood (for you-know-who)

Naylith (for Druids)

Thais (for Brotherhood - yes, it's the second Thais picture)

Dragkthor (you guessed it)

Faiara (for Enchanters)

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
When I said "guild areas", I meant areas that the specific guilds may be able to relate to. I didn't say the 5 AM guilds we have are going to be in the game. As yet, there's no information available on whether or not there will be guilds to join, or which party member might be able to join them.

All of us know that av3 is set after 200-300 years after av2 so don't you think that 200 years are efficient for the swamp to dissapear.

Naylith looks so peaceful and calm...

Witchwood seems to be situated within a valley. It has no swamp! At long last we are rid of toads and swamp mosquitoes.

Naylith looks serene. I have always thought that the Druids would prefer to live in woods/forest?

They are excellent for keeping people from outside "out", and is why our town has the lowest break-in rates. But it hinders traffic. So... prosperity requires a little amount of sacrifices. xD

As Shaz mentioned a few posts above, these are just areas certain guilds could relate to, not necessarily the guilds themselves.

The pictures are great. Dragkthor reminds me of the place in AV2 where you get the dragon. And I like the little houses in Faiara.

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
Hi everyone, thanks for the comments. I have a couple of questions to answer:

1. What happened to New Witchwood?
New Witchwood still exists, but it is in the Arishta Isles, another part of the world, that was featured in Aveyond 1. In Aveyond 3, the story takes place on Mainland, a large continent to the east of the Arishta Isles. The world of Aveyond is huge and you've only seen a snapshot of two areas. As the series progresses, I'll slowly introduce you to more parts of the world. You will also notice that in some games, some villages are available and in other games they are not... even when you are on the same continent. This is not a bug. Each continent has dozens of villages on them, but I only display the villages that are necessary to each game.

I think many of you will be happy to know that Aveyond 4 will take us back to the Arishta Isles (Aveond 4 is a direct continuation of Aveyond 3 and will feature Te'ijal and Mel)

2. What guilds can be joined?
In Aveyond 3, you can't join any guilds. However don't be disparaged! Aveyond 3, 4, and 5 are a trilogy, so you will be able to select your guild in Aveyond 4. In Aveyond 3, you'll just have to drool over them. :-)

Aveyond 3 is turning out to be a massive game. It is easily larger than Aveyond 1 and 2. It should give you hours of entertainment and laughs.

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
Wow, this is great! So, if we take Thais as the constant point in all the games in the series, does that mean that there are now two witchy villages on the mainland (Bogwood and Witchwood)? Or are they the same but renamed? And how exactly did they raise the mainland after they disappeared in AV1? Where did Tar Vedron disappear to (it *was* directly west of Candar in AP), as well as Devenshire and Elden? And most importantly, how on EARTH did the millitant squirrels migrate from Eredar to the Arishta Isles? I can't imagine that they could hide their secret weapon/transportation anywhere on the Highlands XD Oh my, answers just raise more questions XD

Oh, oh, and one last question, if they are a trilogy, does this mean that the seven PCs will be a constant between the three games? I wonder if we'll get to see chibi-Ed/Mel XD

LOL - You ask WAY too many questions Just think of all the fanfics that are going to come out to explain all these things

I just looked at the Maps topic in the AP forum. If that contains ALL the places you can visit in AP, then there may still be a surprise or two left...

This is the beginning of a trilogy? That's going to be epic! Will it be like AP, and AV1 where it time jumps 20 years between each game, or will time not pass between games?

I have to say, I am very interested by the information Amanda. Going back to the Arishta Isles will be very, very fun! That really made my day. And right now I am going to go finish AP so I can relate with these areas. More to the point of the screenies, they all look really nice, but I am intrigued by Witchwood, it is no longer a swamp and seems much brighter than it should. =/ I really like Naylith A LOT and Faiara is very beautiful. This game just keeps getting more and more amazing! =D

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
Awesome! These are soo neat! And, an AV4 + AV5, I'm gonna call my friend as soon as I'm done posting this and tell him! Wait, but, if this isn't on Artisha, how can Ghed'ahre be back? It's located in the Halloween Hills, the AV1 underworld-like place. And, if, as Amanda says, (Amanda is Aramanth, right?)Tei'jal and Mel will be featured again? HOW many repeats of charaters and places do you plan on doing in this series? And wait, that gets me intrigued, useally, if something has anything to do with Tei'jal, I've kinda asociated it with Galahad too now, but Aramanth (I'm saying that 'cause I'm not sure, but almost postive, it's Amanda)left his name out. I have a feeling something BIG is going to happen in this game. I can't wait for the game, as for the places:
Wicthwood? As in THE Wicthwood? Not Bogwood, New Wicthwood, but the orignal?
Fairia looks really cool! I haven't finished AP yet, but my friend says Faria and the dreamworld go toghter. I wonder if the Dreamworld will be back, too?
This game seems TOTALLY awesome! Plus, it seems like the ultimante repeat,
AV1 party-members
AP places
AV2, well, I haven't found anything AV2 related yet. But I don't really care, since that's my least favoite of the games.
And you can play it start to finnish? That means its getting along!

How do you figure that out? As a thief and not a mage, it's unlikely that Mel would be the one to join a guild. And even if she did, it's a fair stretch to say it means she's descended from Lars. Iya could join guilds, but had nothing to do with Lars

If you noticed AV1 and AV2, you'd see that it's not always the main character who's guild eligible. Only in AP is the main character a guild eligible.

It does not matter that if the ancestor of a character was able to join the the guild then the descendent of it will be able to join the guild too.I can say that because none knows that any of the lars's ancestor was able to join the guild or not and the lars or lars's mother said that the teachers fom the guild are coming to choose some students who were gifted they did not said that who's ancestors were gifted And i think Rhen's(The main character of aveyond 1) was a descendent of devin and Princess alicia and devin was not able to join the guild.

However, both Devin and Alicia were powerful Knights in their own rights. So it's partly hereditary as well.

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
Wth! I can't imagine it'd actually really be from AM's guild... -3- Guess we Amaranthians felt left out. -3- Except for W&W & Enchanters, those three I could never accept, especially Brotherhood. FireLord is probably only about fire (which would be bad for the sorcerer/sorceress in the game if he/she meets a water-type foe), and Druids is probably about Earth or some other elemental (dunno much about it) and Brotherhood...Eh...Probably the weakest, since they don't do magic. -shrugs-

Aside from that, the screenies look great! Especially Witchwood. Love the style. Druid wasn't what I expected lol, the house looks 'modern' and for Enchanters... o__0 Mushrooms??

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
as shaz mentioned in a comment above, these are NOT in-game guild locations, merely locations that AM guilds might feel more in touch with. Being an AM is best, because you can feel more in touch with all the locations XD

Brotherhood's prowess is their melee skills. No magic doesn't mean weakness.

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
Y'know... From the posts from King_arceus, Shaz, and Aisiling about the guild thing... It makes me wonder...

You know how in every game. the main character was the most powerful character in the game(Or second most powerful or third) depending how you level the party? I'm wondering, how will Mel be powerful? In Av2, Jack was pretty much the weakest one in the game(Which is sad to me since he's my favorite character out of the whole series with Te'ijal as the second favorite), but in AP, he was pretty unstoppable with the charmed dagger.

If this is asking for spoilers, feel free to say so or just ignore it.

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
Are you sure, hikari_rekka? In AV1, it's Dameon who learns Sun Fury and faces Ahriman. In AV2, it's Iya who learns the Sphere Songs (Phoenix Sphere, hehehehe...) and faces the Snow Queen. The main character is sometimes simply that, the main, but not the most powerful, character.

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
aislingyngaio is right. In Aveyond 1, the most powerful charater was NOT Rhen, but etheir Dameon or Tei'jal depending how you leveled-up. In Aveyond 2, I would have died against the Snow Queen if it weren't for Iya and Emma. Also, Iya IS the chosen one, not Ean, and Rhen CLAIMS Dameon to be, not her.

Oh right! Plus, Hepitus. I was replaying AV2 but something is wrong with the script, so I forgot her. Hepitus is weaker against Iya's light (Phoneix Sphere) and Ean's magic/atack are basicly powerless to her.

 Re: AV3 Screenies for Guilds
I think Lars is the most powerful character in AV1. In the last fight he can just cast Decompose which does at least 3000 damage per turn, and on top of that cast something like lightning storm which will do another 3 or 4 thousand. Another fact that people often over look is that when Rhen casts something like nightbird song or anything from the Sword of shadows, it curses Ahriman which lowers his attack damage and armor by 50%, and deals 4-6 thousand damage. Sun Fury also does about 4-6 thousand damage but it isn't also a curse. Though I agree that in AV2 once Iya gets the phoenix sphere she becomes the most powerful character, though she is kind of useless until that point.

One suggestion I would make for AV3 is to eliminate characters like Mad Marge who are pretty much useless. If they don't add to the story and are useless in battle, you don't really need them. I would expand the side characters and include them in the main story line more.

amanda! thank you thank you!

great screenies btw. and can't wait for it.

i can't believe it's a trilogy! makes me more excited all the more.

though, i do agree that witchwood doesn't look all that.. 'witchy' lol. what a word. but i'm sure you must have a reason for it.

as for naylith, it may not be the way i pictured it (since i thought of more nature and no fence) but i think it still looks great i'm imagining now how the druids live there!hehe

dragkhtor was my favorite screenie very nice just like inside the volcano in av2.

and did i mention faiara looks like teacup town? hehe.

There is something very special about Naylith, which I hope we'll be able to keep a secret until you play the game.

Whether it makes you think it's any more suitable for Druids or not, we'll have to wait and see

At this stage, I'm helping Amanda make the Aveyond games, but that's all. She has another game currently in progress - Gypsy's Tale - which I'm not working on. Perhaps down the track I will help with other games, but for now I don't have the experience to be of much use there.

WOW, this is awesome It's good to seem some familiar places like Witchwood and Faiara from AP.

I agree with some that Naylit doesn't seemed very Druid-like place, but at least it looks serene and peaceful just like we druids are

I read somewhere along the comments (that were too many to read xD)that someone thought Mel to be a descendant of Lars...Since Shaz mentioned she's a thief, I'm thinking that Mel could be related to someone else from AP, plus her name was similar to that somebody and they were in the similar "field"...I could be wrong, it's another theory I have on Aveyond 3 It's been years since I played AP so I barely remember certain names from there

Amanda said very early on in the development, that Mel is a descendent of Vel

The comment that she's a descendent of Lars was speculation; she is not.

Fandom does this to people. Everyone(Including me XD) enjoys talking about a series they like that eventually, the chatter will eventually lead to some sort of idea for a character or concept that leads to rumors and speculations.

but deals more damage. magic attack focuses on spread but usually deals less per enemy. That's how things balance out.

you must also account for armor and magic resistance. In some cases no matter how powerful your melee attack is it won't do anything. Likewise, some enemies are totally immune to magic.

Imagine: A person with high level in Brotherhood(?), deals heavy damage, but only on one enemy; and a person with high level on the other elemental guilds, deals HEAVY damage on ALL enemy. Which do you think wins? (; (Not counting the 'elemental weakness' of course.)
