Irresponsibility: A headache to the YES members
Posted by Stardale on 18-Nov-2008 (1201 reads)

I became the PRO-administrator of our one of our clubs at school. It was known as the YES! Club or Young Environmentalists Society. Our school has implemented the use of paper boxes wherein only papers (no food, plastic, wrappers, crumpled papers and tissue) are allowed to be thrown in. It was just a week that has passed until the day it was time for us to check all of the paper boxes. My clubmates gathered all of the paper boxes from the classrooms of the freshmen up to the classroom of the seniors. I saw all of the paper boxes and all of us got so angry with what we all saw. Despite of several warnings wherein their score in the contest for the Cleanest Classroom will be deducted, still there is no sign of an improvement! I mean look at these pictures!

Among all of the club administrators, including me, the president and the club moderator, Ms. Miles....I was the one who really got so so angry about it. Me and my parter, Francis was supposed to report using the OHP all about Air Pollution, plus all about the Energy Crisis. It is disappointing because we were ready to give our best shot at our report! We had informed the Social Action Coordinator, the Student Club Activities Coordinator and the High School Principal about this situation. Really, really disappointing. It is time now for us members to enforce the rule "NO EATING BEYOND THE YELLOW LINE OF THE CANTEEN. NO EATING INSIDE THE CLASSROOM" policy. I never expected them (especially the seniors) to be that irresponsible when it comes to the classroom cleanliness.

Well Heimdall, I don't think it's especially a problem of reenforcing the rule "NO EATING BEYOND THE YELLOW LINE OF THE CANTEEN. NO EATING INSIDE THE CLASSROOM" policy, because it's not really the problem there, in my opinion...
it's more that people today are just selfish and disrecpectful and don't care at all about the others and their environment... since they will really see the planete dying around us... and even then, maybe they still won't believe what they see...
Unfortunately, it's a question of education first, in my opinion, to take care of these things and respect the rules given, and also a question of personnal behaviour.
Since I've got a lot of work, I often eat at my desk at lunch, but I can tell you that everything is thrown away properly after that and in proper places and that the place is clean and you couldn't know I've eaten there, except perhaps some smell during some minutes after
People just don't take their responsability even for simply daily things today...
And unfortunately, trying to make them ashamed or aware or just respectful is a HUDGE job day after day...
I understand what you feel since I've been fighting such situations all my life... like people throwing papers on the ground when the trash is 2 meters away... or people throwing papers in classrooms with the trash in a corner and telling you that there are cleaning persons to pick it up and putting it there
yep, nice people indeed these ones...

that's perfectly explains that those students aren't discipline at all. Now i'm wondering what's in peoples mind before they throw the garbage on the boxes.(something in their mind within nanoseconds)
I don't think it's curiosity. LOL

do every classrooms in your school have a trash bins? (i've seen a place where there isn't any)
or is there any in your school, i think definitely there is.

most of my classmates are like that, i think they don't look so wide about it,
what will be the effect of what they do, most of my classmates are like that, oh.. it's so depressing to see a candy wrapper around, the directress once said that every trash in our room reflects to us.

elonah, all of the trash bins in our classroom was removed for us to learn how to recycle paper. There are waste bins in the comfort room.

What your directress said is absolutely correct.
Dirty room of yours = You are somehow a bad person. But if you are clean, then you reflect of some of a good person.

I have seen some better behavior when you have a big sign over the bin such as Paper Only in great big letters.

Umm there's a quote called, "Learn the rules, then break some." I mean c'mon who cares if you're/not eating anyone who's anyone do it once in a lifetime not like you'll die if you do it anyways.
