I think some developers don't understand the purpose of a demo. It is not to show the game mechanics or its genre (there are trailers and websites for that), it is to grab the interest of the player and convince him/her to buy the full game.
The Legie demo is so short that it just gives a basic idea of how to play the game without showing anything really interesting. That does not mean the full game is bad, it just means that the demo did not convince me at all to buy the full version. How can you convince someone to buy a game when all the demo gives you is an inn with two tables, a city with 5 houses (with locked doors), one quest and about 4-5 inventory puzzles? It did not convince me, it raised questions like these: What's next? A forest with 4 trees or an interesting environment? A dungeon with 3 rooms or a challenging dungeon? Etc. It reminds me of a RPG Maker game (I don't remember the title) where the introduction cinematics and the tutorial were about 30-40 minutes out of a 1 hour trial! But that's another story, unrelated to Legie. |
