Travel into the strange subterranean land of Avernum.

You were cast down into the dark, volcanic pits of Avernum, filled with foul monsters, constant warfare, and thousands and thousands of your fellow prisoners. This was your punishment for not fitting in, for speaking out against the powers that be, for being an inconvenience to the government of the cruel Emperor Hawthorne. You have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the caverns, eventually to die there, forgotten and unmourned.

There is hope. If you are brave, you will save not only yourself, but Avernum as well.

The gameplay is rich with different forms of offensive and defensive tactics for your characters, as well as party strategy. The designer paid close attention to the overall story, especially if you've played the previous five installments (Exile 1-3 and Avernum 4 & 5). There is a certain amount of morality involved -- decisions affect the storyline later on. Finally, the world is vast and detailed. It should be after five installments. Prior to starting, check out the forums for the games: spiderwebsoftware.com. Click on "Forums" on the left. It gives some basic party formation advice. Good luck! scully_girl Warning: this game can easily be 200-300 hours of gameplay. While I love this, don't think this is a casual game you can finish in a couple of hours.
