Sorry not my kind. I hate random battles. I like to be able to choose to fight.

I'm sorry that you do not enjoy random battles. I almost decided to exclude them in this game, but decided not to at the end.

The good news is that the second game will more than likely not have any random encounters. I plan on the second game being a big improvement over the first, and I have recently started development. It will have a much bigger story, more playable characters, a lot more skills, and quite a bit more places to explore. It will also tie up the Akatori portion of the Prodigy of the North story, as the third Prodigy of the North will start off in the North and follow the other countries.

Rccola, I'm glad you enjoy it I'm looking forward to releasing the second game within the next few months, as this was supposed to be one big game but decided to split it up.

Howdy RcCola, no its not the same land as Shining Plume. I'm not the developer of Shining Plume. This game and its sequel take place in Akatori which is only one tiny country compared to the rest of the world. The third game starts off in the Northern countries with a new cast of characters, although some from Akatori will be returning.

okay i was wondering cause in a way it does seem to be related to shining plume even the starting char sort of looks like the main in shining plume that is why i was wondering and it also seems that some of the skills match up with those as well tho i do like this one better than shining plume so far

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah I know some of the characters are similar, unfortunately. Good news is a lot of the characters undergo make-overs for the 2nd game.

Just thought I'd mention that development of the second game is coming along nicely and should hopefully be done sometime in late March or early April.

Re: Prodigy of the North: Akatori
a few locations where random battles can occur is still good, like a forest (some bandits or animals), haunted ruins (grave robbers and undead), and a coast which gets invaded by some barbarian horde (various enemy troops)

if you use these examples then you have 3 areas a player can still use to level up and gather resources randomly, while making ever other location non-random

I have to say I prefer this system over having a pure-random, or pure-nonrandom game.

I think you mean to say "They look like Enterbrain's Samurai Resource Pack Tilesets".

http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/product/material/samurai

That is where these tilesets, the Book of Legends tilesets, Shining Plume tilesets, and some of Fated Haven's tilesets came from.

Re: Prodigy of the North: Akatori
Okay, let me be honest: The graphs/tileset is not the best but I guess it is hard to find a good one for this classic medieval japanese style, the game is also too short, and just my personal opinion is that there is too much character death which you can't influence (to be more frank, no choices are given to player at all)

However, the story is great, that is a big bonus.

Please consider gaining tips and hints from Skyborn as example for the sequel, ability to modify and craft items would be a great asset, also a better looking tileset would be nice. Topping would be ability to train skills and abilities more/better and be able to change/improve classes.

Still, my score for the game is 6.5 of 10, and that mostly only because the good story and fresh setting, the negatives as stated above.

EDIT: The fanboy in me would have wanted to just scream "this is epic, where is the sequel!?", but I restrained myself and gave a honest, objective review. I hope you don't think I am just an uneducated internet bully or something because of it.
