Haven't been impressed by some of Warfare's recent games, but this one does look more professional...I'll give it a try.

I have to say, I wasn't really impressed with this game that much at all. I played for a bit, then decided the constant grammar and spelling mistakes were far too annoying.
I'm sorry, but I don't think I'm going to be playing another game by Warfare Studios any time soon.

I'm in agreement here. I did buy the game and I'll post a more thorough review later, but the spelling and grammar are absolutely terrible. Constant misused, misspelled and even missing words. This is a big disappointment. Normally Warfare's games have much better editing than this, I've always felt their dialogue was one of their strong points. I'll keep playing the game as some parts of it aren't bad, but I don't think this is going to restore my faith in Warfare Studios.

 Re: Vengeance Road
A festering, cringe-worthy mess of disappointment.

God, I can't wait for Dragons Among Us, at least I know it will be good, unlike this. It did have its good points, but overall...ugh, what a waste.

Mapping 7/10: I actually liked a lot of the mapping. Not perfect and some areas were better than others, but the dungeon areas were very mazelike, just how I like them. Less empty, blank space as well though the maps did get a bit repetetive at times.

Story 4/10: God...not another one. Yet another 'evil kingdom/empire/etc. vs the noble rebels'. You know what I want to see? One game where the government is in the right and the rebels are a bunch of dicks...or one game where good and bad aren't so clear until later. This is overused crap. Overused, badly-written crap because the spelling errors made me want to tear out my eyes. Loose plot threads, unresolved issues, 'sidequests' that give you nothing but a tiny little scene that is supposed to show some form of character development but really resolves absolutely nothing at all. I can see where the developers TRIED to make interesting characters and they did make them interesting...but then they did nothing with them. The ending was a big build-up to nothing. Very disappointing.

Length 4/10: Beat this one in 7 hours. Now, I didn't find everything. I missed 2 elemental lords somehow and 5 frozen tears so I must've missed some stuff at least, but even if I exaggerate that time by a couple of hours and say that it might have taken me 9 hours to find everything and get 100% clear...that's still really short for a $20 game given that there are 'real' games that sell for about three times the price with more than ten times the content.

Gameplay 3/10: Utter. Crap. The sidescrolling battle system was nice, a good change from their previous games, but there was no sense of balance throughout the game. Georg's magic was TOTALLY useless and he's supposed to be the party spellcaster. I don't think I ever saw one of his spells do more than 60 damage to an enemy and this was when his attack was doing over three times that. What's the point of a wizard whose spells are useless? Sura's viper's bite attack is way too good. It works on everyone up to and including the final boss, paralyzing them for long enough to kill them easily. In this way I beat most of the game's boss battles without taking a single point of damage. Edryan was useful early in the game but realistically he could have been replaced with a pile of items. It was good to have healing in the dungeon but monsters were so weak (dealing only 1 damage to party members by the end of the game) that there was really no point to having him along. Add to these flaws the many bugs in this game (cliffs that you could walk along at least partway in the 2nd real dungeon, one place where a scene wouldn't activate because the hallway was two spaces wide and only stepping on the space on the right caused the scene to start, Edryan dying in the last battle and revival items used on him working only on other characters, etc.), and you have a big mess.

Extras 5/10: Well...at least you had a few sidequests this time. The effort was certainly made and some of them even sounded interesting...until you did them (see story) and found that they were really just a few lines of dialogue in which nothing really happens. There were a couple of optional dungeons though, and some neat optional bosses. A good effort, at least.

Art/design 7/10: Perhaps the best part of the game was seeing you use new character designs and pictures, which says something. It was definitely a nice break from seeing the exact same monsters and character sprites/portraits over and over again.

Overall: 5/10

This game seriously needed more playtesting before it was put onto the market, and as such it was a big disappointment. Once again, Warfare Studios has shown that they're incredibly lazy when it comes to trying out their product as evidenced by the many bugs, lack of editing, and balance issues. Better than Vagrant Hearts Zero, but that's really all I can say for it, which isn't much.

 Re: Vengeance Road
Warfare could produce some really excellent games, but they rarely bother to refine them. Instead, they rush out a subpar product littered with grammatical errors (editing writing should be one of the simplest things to fix)--and the writing is only the most basic problem in most of their games. On top of all the problems, they always want to charge $20 a pop. I've yet to see a Warfare game come anywhere near cheaper, more polished, and more engaging games by other developers. In fact, their best "effort" to date was Opaline, which was a team-up with Aldorlea, and Aldorlea's impact really shows on the final product
