This game is amazing. The story is very interesting and well planned. The characters are very well to play with. I like the interaction between the party members, they don't get well too much, which is very unique, and that's also interesting. The side view battle is very cool and the characters move and everything else unlike Aveyond. Graphics aren't too good but you won't be bothered by that when you play the game and lose yourself in how cool the story and the characters are, specially the anti-hero Gauly. ^^

I recently played through this game. It has both strong and weak points.
The story and characters are very, very strong strong. The story is interesting and does a good job of explaining what the source of conflict is. The characters are well developed. There is good explanation for why the "good guys" and the "bad guys" act the way they do. The story and characters are the reason why I enjoyed this game. By contrast, when the story is the most important part of the game, it is mindboggling that the author couldn't be bothered to have it proofread. There are issues with word choice and grammar, and many, many typos (reversed letters, extra letters, extra words) that are just plain sloppy. The poor presentation of the text distracts from the great story, and is certainly not something you'd expect to pay $20 for. As others have commented, this game could be improved with a world map to refer to, and a quest book. However, the informed player can compensate for this by taking notes. If you're planning on playing this game, you'll want to write down place names, how the places are connected (i.e. list them in the order encountered), and the places where side quests are given. Side quests are completed much later in the game after initiation and some side quests need you to go back and forth between two people. I found the battles to be boring, which is sad, because there are so many encounters if you truly explore each area. I had a battle strategy for regular monsters and a battle strategy for bosses, and I didn't need to change it much throughout the game. (For most of the game, I used Gauly because I couldn't get rid of him, Grant whacking away with his giant axe, and Ashley alternating between healing and shine.) The animated side view of the battles was cute for the first 10 or so battles, but then just made the battles take more time than I wanted to spend on them. Previous posters mention that the final boss is too hard. My game had the opposite problem. The final boss has 4 pieces, and each got deactivated (killed?) by just one (very powerful) hit. It was confusing, because I didn't see the pieces die, however, I couldn't select the deactivated pieces again in the battle. And then suddenly, the final battle was over (0 exp, 0 gold) and I was in the ending scene. Maybe that would be a plus for some players? Previous posters also mention low quality graphics. This didn't bother me at all. Playing in the default small window (rather than full screen), I didn't see the pixelation. I really liked the faces, especially Vallia's, which really matched the characters' personalities. The only face I didn't like, ironically, was Gauly's, as I felt he looked much much younger than how he was described in the text. Overall, this has a great story, but I was disappointed that I spent $20 on it, due to the sloppy text and the fact that this game was short as compared to other games I spent less money on. |
