 Re: Millennium: A New Hope
This is one of my favourite RPG's of last year and I am not surprised that RPG Fan has awarded this game Indy RPG of the Year (with some very stiff competition). I enjoyed playing this the most along with Gates of Night and Asguaard in 2009.

To Whispers I am bewildered that you found this difficult as I always play on very easy mode and power my way through the game. There are also several walkthroughs and maps as there are for Aveyond so you shouldn't really get stuck. Anyway, I hope you give this another go as you really are missing out on a visual treat, the graphics and gameplay are amazing.

Beautiful presentation. I've enjoyed it immensely and will continue to follow any upcoming episodes. No matter the playing level, I found the fantastic jumping, guilds, quests (some of which you truly have to think outside the box) and monster Kings a true challenge to defeat using strategy as well as skill.

I found this quite boring. 3:
This is also a bit like Aveyond, which is the only thing that made me play this game.

Played it, then stopped. It really gripped me in the beginning, enough to buy it, then I regretted my decision- it does get boring, and how some of the graphics don't match (you pick it up on the ground and it looks nice, and then in your inventory it looks... not that good.) does get annoying.

 Re: Millennium: A New Hope
Very boring IMO. I agree with Elemental. I payed for this game but never finished it and probably will never gain curiosity to play it again. Games are supposed to be fun not boring.

Story: Very, very lame.

Characters: I like how they look but their personalities are awful except for maybe the fairy Jeanne.

Maps: I have a feeling that Aldorlea is always using the same maps over and over again, which is nothing to be excited about. Yes they look nice but no, they don't look nice if you see them in every game. Also some of the maps were too dark which was irritating because I had to play with the "contrast" and the "brightness" of my monitor all the time. One more note about the maps: yes they are big..huge. I'm a person that likes to explore and loves beautiful huge maps but, it seems that in this game walking doesn't have any purpose and it gets boring and irritating again.

Music: Nothing special.

Note about items:
The thing that was mentioned by Elemental doesn't bother me at all (the way the items look when you pick them out) but the thing that bothers me is that there are items which you have to use for your quests but it's never said when you click on it. I found a cheese and I sold it because it said that it was smelly, lately I read in walkthrough (because I wasn't able to figure out something about one quest) that the cheese was the item that I needed to finish the quest. My suggestion are: either you write a hint (instead of that the cheese is smelly -_-' )or either disable it when the sell menu in shop is open.

That's pretty much. I respect Indinera and the whole Aldorlea's team but their games need more depth and character.

 Re: Millennium: A New Hope
Don't know why you guys think that this game is boring, if was boring it woudn't have earned the title of best RPGIndie of 2009 by RPGFan.
This saga is pretty awesome and I'm eagerly waiting for the next two remaining episodes. ^^

Now my review:

Story: The story of Millennium is not about save the world, but yes, to help a country! Which is very good because I was really tired of that ''save the world'' thing, Marine has the chance to salve her country from poverty by winning against the powerfull town of Mystrock, how she is going to do that? She has less than a month to gather 13 warriors to fight alongside her against the lords of Mystrock. What's more cool in that, it's because she gets help from all parts of her world, she explore lands that she never imagined that existed just to help her people, thanks to that she manage to find a crocodile hunter and even a monk, but that is not enough to achieve her goal, she has so many to find and so little time, still she has hope and a fairy friend which lives in her earing that will help her. ^^ And I saw that some other people here said that story was boring and stopped playing, you know, comments like ''it's boring'' and ''it's bad'' and doesn't tell why it's boring or bad, it really doesn't count.

Graphics: I loved the graphics, the tilesets are the most beautiful that I ever saw in a RPG Maker game, and with Aldorlea's magical hand to make mapping, it all turns out to be perfect, if you play this game you will explore charming and beautiful places like forests, swamps, caves, villages... all very well done, beautiful, well mapped. The dungeons has lot of fun, you can explore them a lot and find secret rooms that contains nice rewards which are worth the explorations, I saw that ''someone'' complained about big places with nothing to do, well... I must say that I played Aveyond 1, when I was on clearwater village, the only thing that has to be done in that big places, is to find that rose that Rhen's mother asked to find, and I really don't understand when people says that Aldorlea uses the same maps over and over again lol I guess that people doesn't have more bad things to post and post meaningless things like that, so think before saying bad things about games you don't like since the game you like has the same flaws, which Millennium is not like that.

Gameplay: The gameplay is very good, it's always pleasant to explore dungeons and places in this game, there's a nice questbook that you can check whenever you want by pressing S, like that you never lose track of your quests and such. Also want to add that Millennium now has the option to choose between visible and invisible encounters, battle 150% faster and green arrows to show the way.

Music: The musics are amazing, it fits perfectly with every atmosphere of the game, it makes the gameplay even more pleasant and enjoyable. ^^

The Millennium series are making success, if you like a good rpg, with quality and an exciting story, including a strong cast of characters. Play the Millennium series, one of the best series out there so far, alongside with the Laxius Force trilogy. ^^

Well, from Aldorlea you can expect only the best, that's why is the best Indie RPG company out there and my favourite too.

The story focuses way too much on random events, especially in the beginning. Couldn't get myself to care about the characters. And yeah, someone mentioned earlier, the screens were anoyyingly dark. I also dislike the maps, they felt too large with too little to do. Not worth the buy.

 Re: Millennium: A New Hope
I played this game when it came out a year ago, and really enjoyed it. I liked it enough to play it again right away, and then again more recently.

In the Millenium games, story, fighting, and hunting are important. The story has a big big heart, but if you take it too seriously, you'll get annoyed with the details. I just let myself be entertained and enjoyed meeting all the characters. These characters evolve in subsequent Millenium games, as Marine learns more about what she's getting herself into, and the other characters become more committed to her quest. For a reminder on where you are in the story, use Marine's "Talk" skill, and she'll tell you what the next goal in the main quest is.

The maps in Millenium are full of hidden surprises, and the player who takes the time to pick through through them in detail will be well rewarded indeed. There are secret rooms, very nice bonus equipment, hidden cash, power-ups, fun places to jump, scary monster ambushes, and places that trigger party interactions just waiting to be found. The mouse system helps you with this, as the cursor turns into a hand or a magnifying glass or a pair of boots when you mouse over interesting areas of the map. You can find additional stuff if you click on other different or out-of-place things, even if the mouse doesn't think they're interesting. (Regarding Moon Princess' comment, I'd say that, while Aldorlea does seem to reuse tilesets, all their maps have very different paths through them.)

Characters in Millenium are customizable in several ways. As you explore the maps, you collect orbs, that can be traded for bonuses in the strength, dexterity, agility, and mind attributes of your party members. A character with high strength and a good weapon hits hard in battles, a character with high dexterity takes less damage when hit; a character with high agility hits before a character or monster with lower agility; and a character with high mind casts more damaging spells. When each human character reaches level 20, you may purchase a "promotion" for them, which is a large one-time boost in certain attributes. Depending on what items you've already found by hunting through the maps, you may have a choice of two different promotions for each character. Equipment can also be used to adjust the attributes of each character. Finally, Marine has a "Fighting Strategy" skill where she can choose from three different options.

The battles in Millenium can be customized to suit each player's style. You can "fight", "rush" (have every character hit a random target, which makes easy battles really quick), or "escape". This is the game that made me learn to love (yes, LOVE) the random encounters style, as you can use Marine's "Hide or Fight" skill to change the frequency of the encounters depending on what you're doing. If you want to level up really quickly, turn the battle frequency all the way up; if you want to explore a new map without being distracted, turn it down to "at least 50 steps between encounters." If you pick through a map in detail, with a normal battle frequency, you'll not only get all the bonus surprises from the map, you'll also be leveled up and ready to start the next area. If that still doesn't sound good to you, now you can choose to have visible encounters throughout the game.

The boss battles in Millenium are there to challenge you as much as you would like to be challenged. Level up your characters, boost their strength, dexterity, agility, and mind according to your strategy, find bonus equipment and other special items for each one, and fight! There are two boss fights required by the main plot. Depending on which difficulty you choose, you may face as many as 8 animal kings in side quests. I found these to be a fun challenge, but if you don't like boss fights, you can choose not to fight the animal kings. I wonder what's the minimum party level someone's defeated the Ant King on hard mode?

I should also add that Saehral's face sets for Millenium are a wonderful visual treat. Each of her faces is interesting and unique, and yay for a beautiful brown-eyed heroine!

In summary, I'd recommend Millenium to almost everyone. If you play RPGs only for story, and exploring and fighting just get in your way, then Millenium is not for you. But if you really enjoy all three aspects - story, exploring and finding hidden things, and fighting - then you'll love the Millenium series. Use all the available options (described above) to play these games the way you like to play them.

It´s a wonderful game, the VERY best on this website, you only wish it wwan't released as "episodes".... I'd pay $50 for the full 5 episodes to be released all at once instead of having to wait for each episode (although the 2nd and 3rd ones were wonderful too).
Regardless a great game for the relatively small price.

 Re: Millennium: A New Hope
Okie dokie, folks, let's calm down. Once again, please allow me to remind you that these reviews are here for people to give their opinions on games that they've played. If they didn't like the game, they're entitled to say so. Please do not start, or continue an argument with someone just because you like a game and they don't. What's the point of having reviews if we're going to filter them to only show the positive comments?

Giving a good review is okay
Giving a bad review is okay
Critizing someone because they gave a bad review is NOT okay
Critizing game developers is NOT okay

And as soon as we sort out the glitches that are stopping me, I'm going to be going through deleting all the argumentative comments.

Please remember, in the words of Bill and Ted, "be excellent to each other"
