Upon the Spiral Hill |
So let's get some 'technical' stuff out of the way first, yeah? I made the background; however, DtD created the script I used to display it. To make the 'rooms' of my cottage, I took the original code from here, and then tweaked it a bit using an edit by Argoyle. Portraits of characters within my cottage were created in Facemaker. Picture credits (edits done by me): Spiral Hill, Dark Forest, If anyone sees anything 'off' about my cottage, or if I missed anything that needs a credit, lemme know! (For the curious, Upon the Spiral Hill is a reference to Nightmare Before Christmas, easily my favorite movie of all time, however, the spiral hill that I reference is not the one from Nightmare Before Christmas (you'll see why). Also, a note: I *will* be adding more to this cottage, as my rpg character list grows, because the Barrows line -as you will see soon enough,- is a long and winding one.) A parting note, and reminder to myself: NEVER try to work on this stuff when the kitteh's around. XD Okay, let's get on with it, shall we?

The hill that stands before you is called Spiral Hill. It is a majestic hill, the site of wonder and might. You see a lumpy mass atop the hill. Before you can decide for yourself whether or not to approach, the form moves. It turns toward you, revealing itself. "My name is Rutlett Barrows," a voice calls out, low and husky. "why do you seek the Hill?" It's a woman, hunched over and covered in a heavy dark cloak. Her dark hair falls long and ragged around her face, which shows not age, but experience. Her eyes are dark and the lids droopy, her lips thin and fixed in a grimmace. She shakes her head somberly and beckons to you as she stands. "Come along, it will be midnight soon. You'll need a warm place to stay, at least for the night." She holds a lithe arm ahead of herself as she walks toward you, her lantern swinging back and forth slightly, almost as if she is trying to hypnotize you. As she passes you, she nods. " Come on, then."

"Stay close to me along this path, you don't want to get bushwhacked by some savage soul looking for a fight. And trust me when I say this," she pauses here, bowing her head slightly, "you don't want to mess with the beastly little grunters that live in these woods. Nasty creatures, most of them, and the ones that aren't, likely wouldn't help you if you were dying." Rutlett pulls out a smaller cloak from her own and throws it back to you before continuing on. "This should offer you some protection against the elements and the elementals." And sure enough, a wind catches the cloak, tearing at it fiercely. The forest is noisy with random animal sounds, creaks and groans, mostly things you would expect to hear in a thick forest late at night. However, there are some noises you can not recognize as being altogether natural, and you can see specters and beasts just beyond the edges of the path. It's taking an awfully long time to travel this path... "It won't be too long now, see up ahead?" Rutlett points toward a small light at the end of the path .

Re: Upon the Spiral Hill to Amaranthia Kingdom, Ru!!! (I'd stick up with that nickname) I also like Spirited Away and ALL of Tim Burton's cartoons--like Corpse Bride, N-mare Before X-mas and so on. You like any Tim Burton's other cartoons?

Re: Upon the Spiral Hill Sorry to reply so late- just got up (or maybe sorry to reply so early? LOL)! Thank you so very much for the welcome! Most definitely- Corpse Bride was so very beautifully sad, it actually made me cry. And VINCENT. AHAHA VINCENT. Also, The Fox and the Hound and The Black Cauldron were some of my faves when I was little, he worked on those too, so I imagine those count.

Re: Upon the Spiral Hill Thank you very much for the welcome! Been sleeping- sorry to get back to you so late (early!) I must admit, I'm only really a novice when it comes to anime- I 'got into' anime when I was about 15, with Sailor Moon, and after Cartoon Network discontinued it, I lost interest (although not really, it just never occured to me to seek out anime I suppose), but in the last few years I've started watching Sunday Morning Cartoon Network, and they have nothing but anime- Bleach, Durara (currently), Cowboy Bebop (which is done airing for now but I think they'll have reruns sometime down the road), InuYasha (which is also done airing, but rarely plays at around 5AM), Kekkaishi (also done), and I did catch about 2 episodes of Samurai Champloo before it went off the air.

Re: Upon the Spiral Hill Durarara is awesome! :3 If you liked it, you might want to check Baccano out. I heard it's similiar in the tellings of the stories. (I must admit I haven't seen it yet, since I haven't had the time to start a new one >.<

Re: Upon the Spiral Hill Budding anime fan, yes. I remember watching Sailor Moon when I was younger, but when it was taken off the air, I 'lost interest' sorta. Then Hayao Miyazaki pretty much blew my mind when I saw Spirited Away, and I, purely on accident, found Bleach one night, and started watching. I love the weird yet simple humor of a lot of the animes. LOL I'm gonna take you up on that. *gets bored sooo much* But. I must flee. BEACH TIME.

Re: Upon the Spiral Hill Well, I was thinking either the Enchanters or the Druids. And, quite literally, I'm stuck in the middle of either one. Every other day I'm switching between wanting to join one or the other. I think it's going to take me the same amount of time to earn the gold as it will to figure out which one I would like to join.

Re: Upon the Spiral Hill *contemplatively stares at the plate of cookies* It's not that I particularily like one guild over another, it's simply that I believe I'm best suited personality-wise for the Druids or the Enchanters. I like the Druids because I've always been someone who believes strongly in the importance of balance (suffering & joy, darkness and light, etc), and I like the Enchanters for their pursuit of knowledge (and the idea of magic appeals to me, which is why I also love the W&W ). OH. I meant to ask in the last comment, how did you come up with your title? I love making up titles for things. *reaches out to poke a cookie, has heard very mysterious rumors about W&W cookies*
